Rain or no rain we ride and on this particular ride it looked like it would rain all evening. Taking this into account we decided to abandon our original plan and create a shorter route heading first for the famous bagel shops on Brick Lane and then across central London to Battersea bridge and another fantastic bike shop, Cycle PS Battersea.
Undeterred by the weather we had a really strong turnout, once again meeting at our favourite watering hole Cycle PS Camberwell. Waterproofs on and lights flashing we headed out into the weather, winding our way through Burgess Park, popping out on the other side to cross The Old Kent Road. Safely across we headed down Dunton Road and Willow Walk. Passing The Victoria, a timeless victorian corner pub, we cut through onto Webb St and turned right onto Tower Bridge road. This took us up and left onto Bermondsey St with all it's great bars, cafe's and restaurants. Emerging from underneath London Bridge station we crossed to the riverside.
This was where things became more dangerous. With the weather still wet but bearable the surfaces near City Hall and The Scoop were treacherous. Three of our group went down although thankfully no one was hurt. We slowed, re-grouped and carried our bikes up the steps to London Bridge and crossed to the North side of town and were quickly nearing our first destination Brick Lane and it's two famous Bagel Shops.
Fed and still rather damp we handed over the reins to our good friend and brilliant navigator Lap aka Lap Nav. With the rain slowing we road swiftly and brilliantly through town and down onto the Embankment which we followed all the way down to Battersea bridge which we traversed arriving bang on time for drinks and a few games with Ian and our friends at Cycle PS Battersea.
